Performers

Mario Acosta-Cevallos & Dioney da Silva (Edmonton)

Mario Acosta-Cevallos is a four time World Salsa Champion, a Canadian Latin-American Ballroom Finalist, and Director of the Edmonton area based SalsaVitus Dance Company. He is known for his hypnotic performances marked by high levels of grace, speed, and technical difficulty.

Most recently, Mario competed at the World Salsa Summit in Miami and won first place in the Professional Male Solo category and the Professional Same Gender category with his dance partner Dioney da Silva.

Dioney da Silva is talented dancer, instructor, and choreographer from Oaxaca, Mexico. Aside from holding the title of World Salsa Summit, he is also the current Euroson Same Gender Champion. He has worked with many of the top Mexican couples and teams and is known to bring out the best of each dancer he encounters.

Mario's current projects include travelling to teach and perform, developing his dance teams and pro-ams, and creating new and exciting routines for the upcoming next year.

KW Salseros (Waterloo)

KW Salseros is a student-run organization comprised of the Salsa clubs at the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, as well as the greater dance community in Waterloo, ON. It strives to share Latin culture including traditions, music, history, and food, and bring the community together through dance. KW Salseros’ primary instructors specialize in teaching the fundamental movements and choreography for Casino Rueda, Cuban Salsa, L.A. Style Salsa, New York Style, and Traditional and Modern Bachata. As the leading Latin Dance organization in the Waterloo Region, it aims to build a community of social, open, and playful Latin dancers by fortifying foundations and training adaptability. KW Salseros thrives on collaboration and fusion, while also celebrating the roots of Latin Dance. Its goal is to spread the pleasure of dance as an art, as exercise and as a philosophy.

GoSalsa (Gatineau)

The first Latin Dance Company established in Gatineau in 2002. GoSalsa is renowned internationally for producing the Annual Gatineau International Salsa Congress - Salsafair, 3 years running hosting thousands of artists and dancers alike. They are popular for their artistic style and creative “out of the box” choreographies and shows. Directed by Komlanvi Dodjro and Claudine Martel, GoSalsa has astonished audiences with their theatrical interpretation and stage presence at international dance events. Their vision is to change people’s lives through the passion and joy of dancing. GoSalsa approaches teaching with humor, enthusiasm, abundant energy and great passion. The directors are proud to present their latest routine.

Rania Greiche (Montreal)

D’origine égyptienne, mordue de la danse depuis son enfance dans plusieurs styles; ballet, Hip-Hop et Baladi, la danse latine fut celle qui l’inspire le plus, et ce depuis bientôt 8 ans. Professeure, chorégraphe et danseuse professionnelle depuis 4 ans, elle a fait plusieurs compétitions et spectacles au niveau national et international d’autant plus que d’avoir participé à divers congrès & festivals dont le festival de jazz de Montréal & Festival juste pour rire, le congres de Los Angeles en 2012 et encore plus! Elle continue à transmettre sa passion avec son partenaire Rickey Zepeda depuis maintenant 3 ans. Organisatrice, Directrice & fondatrice d’une grande compétition à Montréal, Salsa Fever Dance Competition & passionné de ce qu’elle fait, voici Rania Greiche

Rickey Zepeda (Montreal)

Il danse depuis maintenant 8 ans et est également professeur et Chorégraphe depuis 5 ans. D'origine Guatémaltèque, il a dansé sur scène National & International entres autres au Chili, Los Angeles 2009 & à Chicago. Il a participé à plusieurs congrès et Festivals de danse afin de partager sa passion de la danse Latine et continue jusqu'aujourd’hui de le faire avec sa partenaire, Rania Greiche en n'ayant qu'un objectif, vous transmettre le plaisir et la joie de danser. Tout récemment, février 2015, il obtient la première place dans la catégorie duo Men’s styling avec son partenaire Adriano, nous revenant avec le titre de champion mondiale de la grande compétition World Salsa Summit à Miami.

Salsa-Force (Ottawa)

UOSalsa, the official salsa club at the University of Ottawa, is a student run club that, as a social organization, strives to provide students and community members with a fun and welcoming environment to learn the fundamentals and more of salsa and other Latin dances, and as a competitive dance team, trains intensively in order to develop a higher level of technique and skill among all its members. The founder and current coach of UOSalsa is Jose Sandoval of Salsa-Force (www.salsa-force.com). Jose has had over 10 years of experience where he has been able to perfect techniques, tips, and tricks that he is willing to share with all his students in order to take them to the next level. Jose has instructed and performed at international events throughout North America and Asia including in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Miami, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Vietnam, and he has led the UOSalsa performance team in their participation in many events including several performances within the Ottawa/Gatineau region and at the Canada Salsa and Bachata congress in Toronto. UOSalsa believes that “Salsa is not just a dance, it’s a lifestyle.”

Golden Flame Dance Company (Ottawa)

Aletta and Abby are two different young and dedicated individuals from two different cultures but were raised with the great talent of dance. Aletta was born and raised in Russia and from age of 6 started studying dance from the best Latin, Ballroom, Flamenco, Bellydance, and Ballet school, and after many years of practice, she started teaching dance back home. At the same time in Nigeria, Abby started his dance career from the street as Hip- Hop and Latin dancer and then moved to Canada where he studied other different dance styles like Ballet, Contemporary, Tap, Jazz, Ballroom, Salsa, Bachata, and Zouk from famous schools and teachers across Ontario. Abby and Aletta met in Ottawa on the dance floor of Rahim's salsa Friday night and since then became a furious duo mixed with so many different dance styles. And today they dance, compete and perform, teach Salsa and Bachata partner work and footwork technique, choreograph together, give workshops across Canada.

The young but already well-known dance company Golden Flame Dance is the creation of Abby’s hard work and creativity and Aletta has become a part of it as well. The couple is happy to be performing for Ottawa on Ottawa’s Salsa Convention bringing all the talent and accumulated experience in one incendiary and fiery Salsa show!

Isabelle & Jacques

Dancing together since 2013, Isabelle and Jacques are passionate amateur dancers who have won several prizes including the Canadian Amateur Bachata Championship in 2014 and 2015, the 1st place in both salsa and bachata at the Montreal Salsa Convention in 2015, and the 3rd place in the salsa cabaret category at the World Salsa Summit in 2015 and 2016 in Miami. Trained by influential local and international coaches, they complement their respective dance background by delicately harmonizing the free-spirit and effervescence of modern jazz and oriental dancing with the lines and structure of ballroom dancing.

Dansant ensemble depuis 2013, Isabelle et Jacques sont des danseurs amateurs passionnés qui ont remporté plusieurs prix, dont le championnat amateur canadien de bachata en 2014 et 2015, la 1ère place en salsa et bachata à la convention de salsa de Montréal de 2015, et la 3ème place dans la catégorie salsa cabaret lors du sommet mondial de la salsa de 2015 et 2016 à Miami. Formés par des entraîneurs locaux et internationaux influents, ils complémentent leur expérience respective de danse en harmonisant délicatement l'esprit libre et l’effervescence du jazz moderne et de la danse orientale avec les lignes et la structure de la danse de salon.

Anne-Marie & Luc (Gatineau)

Anne-Marie a débuté la danse (ballet classique) dès l’âge de 9 ans. Plusieurs années plus tard, en 2007, elle fit la découverte de la danse latine à Edmonton et développa sa passion de cet univers merveilleux à travers les conventions et les soirées sociales. En 2008, après 2 mois d'entraînement, elle participa à sa première troupe de danse salsa (Ecole de Manuel Molina de Ste-Julie) avec laquelle elle performa dans le vieux port de Montréal. En 2015, grâce à Julie-Anne Codaire de Salsaole, elle participa à sa première troupe de salsa féminine. Ensuite, en 2016, elle effectua sa première compétition de bachata avec Luc Poulin de Salsaole.

Studio X (Ottawa)

Studio X Ottawa is an eclectic dance, fitness and space rental studio located downtown Ottawa. The owners, Nadège and Soul (co-directors of the former Blackanese Mambo Dance Team), is a dynamic duo of Haitian and Asian background as well as a couple on stage and off who have been dancing for about 17 years (10 years of which they have been dancing together), and they have competed and performed in various dance events in North America. Their passion for dance have made them try many different dance styles and take on new challenges to gain a variety of experiences and reinvent themselves to bring you an unique blackanese flavor on stage.

Studio X Ottawa est un studio éclectique de danse, de mise en forme et de location de salles situé au centre-ville d’Ottawa. Les propriétaires, Nadège and Soul (co-directeurs de l’ancienne équipe Blackanese Mambo Dance Team), est un duo dynamique d’origine haïtienne et asiatique qui sont également un couple autant sur la scène que dans la vie de tous les jours. Ils possèdent tous deux environ 17 ans d’expérience en danse (dont 10 ans à danser ensemble) et ont participé à des compétitions ainsi que donné des prestations dans divers événements en Amérique du Nord. Leur passion commune pour la danse sous toutes ses formes les a poussés à essayer différents styles de danse et à entreprendre des nouveaux défis en vue d’acquérir une variété d’expériences et de se réinventer pour vous offrir une saveur afro-asiatique unique sur scène.

Trena Graham (Halifax)

Based in Halifax, Trena has been teaching in various classes, dance schools and clubs since 2001, where she has applied her extensive ballroom and Latin training. She founded Trena’s Dance Studio in 2006; where she is artistic director, choreographer and pole fitness instructor. She has also been a local and national judge for the Atlantic and Canadian Pole Fitness Championships.

Trena focusses primarily on Salsa and Bachata, she has performed these locally and is excited to hit the national stage. Her technique and style are always impressive but it’s her energy, enthusiasm and engaging smile on the dance floor that are most memorable.

Recently, she has taught at the 2015 Toronto International Bachata Congress, 2015 Calgary Salsa Congress and most recently the 2016 Montreal Bachata Festival.

Harold Rancano and Regan Hirose (Winnipeg)

Harold Rancano and Regan Hirose, are a Latin dance couple best known for their energetic, and acrobatic flair on stage. Based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, the flavorful couple has achieved plenty of success on a national and international level. Most notably they are the current World Champions for Bachata Cabaret having won gold at the World Latin Dance Cup in Miami, Florida; and are also the current Canadian Bachata Champions having won gold at the Canada Salsa Congress in Toronto, Ontario. The couple has also competed and won various competitions in Salsa and Bachata in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Calgary, and Saskatoon.

Aside from competition, the duo also directs Cubanisimo Dance Company in their hometown, where they train and coach their teams and students, 3 of which won gold at the 2015 World Latin Dance cup. They also coach and mentor various teams outside of the city by both teaching and creating choreography.

Also known for their connection and unique choreography, the couple has travelled to several festivals and congresses to share their vast knowledge of styles and various latin rhythms such as; Salsa on 1, Salsa on 2, Bachata, Pachanga, Cuban Salsa, Cha cha cha and Lifts & Tricks. Whether it’s privates, group classes or to coach teams, the couple has the experience to adapt to any teaching environment.

Azucar's Ladies' Troupe (Ottawa)

Azucar! Latin Dance Company is Ottawa's premier dance studio specializing in Latin and street dances. We aim to create a tight-knit community of dancers driven by the passion of dancing to the music in their heart.

Our 2016 Ladies' Troupe, coached and choreographed by Ana Gherasim and Emilie Phaneuf, will present a dynamic routine that mixes sassy salsa styling with earthy rumba elements. Get ready for a great show!

Azucar! Latin Dance Company is Ottawa's premier dance studio specializing in Latin and street dances. We aim to create a tight-knit community of dancers driven by the passion of dancing to the music in their heart.

Our 2016 Student Troupe, coached and choreographed by Ana Gherasim and Darnell Cruz, have a fun Cuban-inspired salsa piece for you. Most of our students are new to performing, and are excited to share their first choreographed routine with you!

Corinne Tardieu (Montreal)

Corinne danse depuis son enfance. Son premier contact avec la danse fut à l’âge de trois ans où elle passait des cours entier dans les bras du professeur de ballet de ses sœurs. Depuis, la dance est devenue une partie importante de sa vie. Danse folklorique haïtienne, ballet, jazz, moderne, flamenco, salsa, elle a touché à toutes les danses. À l’adolescence, elle approfondie sa passion pour la danse lors des 5 ans passés dans un programme de danse-étude. En 2001, elle découvre la salsa et y est accros depuis lors. Elle participe à de nombreux congres de salsa, compétitions et évènements au niveau national et international. En 2009, elle remporte deux des plus grande compétitions de salsa au canada lors des congres de Montréal et Toronto et représente le canada cette année lors du ``World salsa Championship`` où elle arrive à ce placer dans le top 10 de la catégorie ``on 1``. Depuis lors, elle est une figure féminine reconnue dans le milieu de la danse latine à Montréal.

The Ritmo Baile Pro Am Team- Bachata (Ottawa)

Ritmo Baile School of Dance is an organization based in Ottawa, dedicated to introducing individuals to the world of Latin Dance through workshops, performances and competitions. Our mission is to use dance to promote self-confidence, exercise as well as being a vessel for self-expression. Ritmo Baile engages its students in a wide variety of dance styles, allowing the creativity in each individual to shine through. Our goal is to continue to not only create a sense of community amongst dancers, but also to promote art in a diverse city such as Ottawa.

Luc and Julie-Anne (Gatineau)

SalsaOlé opened its doors in 2006. Since then, its dancers have performed at many events in Canada and the United States.

SalsaOlé’s directors, Luc and Julie-Anne, are two times World Pro-Am Bachata Champions and two times World Pro-Am Salsa Vice-Champions. They are considered two of the most influential dancers and instructors in the National Capital Region and are travelling around Canada and the United States to teach, compete and perform. They are coached by Multiple World Champions Billy Fajardo & Katie Marlow from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA and train regularly with the most influential instructors in the world.

 

SalsaOlé a ouvert ses portes en 2006. Depuis, ses danseurs se sont produits à de nombreux événements au Canada et aux États-Unis.

Les directeurs de SalsaOlé, Luc et Julie-Anne, sont deux fois champions du monde pro-am en bachata et deux fois vice-champions du monde pro-am en salsa. Ils comptent parmi les danseurs et professeurs les plus influents de la région de la capitale nationale et ils voyagent au Canada et aux États-Unis pour enseigner la danse, participer à des compétitions et se produire en spectacle. San Tropez (Montreal)

With over 20 years of experience, Sonia Kyriacou and Moris Alvarenga are talented and renowned dancers, who have graced stages all across Europe and North America. Not only do they bring versatility and a magical connection to every performance, but their passion for Latin dance is an inspiration.

Based in Montreal, they direct the San Tropez Dance Centers, one of the largest Latin dance schools in Canada. They also host thousands of dancers every year at the prestigious Montreal Salsa Convention now celebrating it’s 12th year!

It is with great pleasure that they present their troupe, Descarga, a team of talented dancers whose experience is as diverse as their talent.

Steps Dance Studios (Toronto)

Angelo and Kathy began dancing together since 2009. Their passion for latin dancing has led them to start competing and performing together. They are the 2011 Chim Pum Callao Congress and the Canada Salsa Congress Bachata Champions and were finalist at the Toronto Bachata Festival.

They enjoy travelling and sharing their passion for dance and have performed at international events such as the All Star Salsa Europian Cruise and the Israel Salsa Congress. Together they have developed a unique style of bachata, have taught hundreds of classes and workshops, and have choreographed numerous routines for both professionals and amateurs alike.

Angelo De Torres is a professional dancer and choreographer and has had a love and appreciation for music since a very young age. The diverse forms of expression inherent in Salsa, Bachata, Pachanga and Latin Hustle is what captivated him to learn and share his passion. He has extensive training with respected international instructors such as Billy Fajardo, Katie Marlow, Nelson Flores, Tito Ortoz, Tamara Livolsi, Francesco Scalvenzi and Milko Succi. Angelo has been teaching and dancing since 2008 for Steps dance studio under the direction of Jennifer Aucoin and is now a co-director of Steps Studio Inc.

Kathy Dondish has had the passion for dance at an early age, when she took her first ballet class at the age of 6 and trained in gymnastics at age 11. Her love for latin dancing only grew stronger as of 2007 and hasn't stopped since.

Today, she is a performer, teacher and competitor. Having trained with top Toronto dancers as well as internationally has increased her drive to share her love on stage and in the studio.

Monique Gruber and Roudi Benyoucef

Monique Gruber started dancing soon after winning her battle against breast cancer. She became addicted to the music and soon joined a Rueda troupe and performed often with them. She also attended the Miami salsa congress and has danced socially in New York and San Diego, to name a few. She placed in 5 different categories at the Montreal Congress last year while under the banner of RITMO BAILE in the pro-am division. Well known in the Ottawa salsa community, she is the oldest salsa performer at this convention and is looking forward, at 65 years young, to share her energy with her coach and longtime friend, Roudi Benyoucef.

Ricardo Bureos (Montreal) & Nayelli González Román (Mexico)

Dance partners whose professional salsa career began in 2005, they are both ex-members of Ourdance dance company and interested in expression through dance and the scenic arts. In 2010, they began a journey together which led them to being acknowledged throughout Mexico City’s salsa community. Their common interest for contemporary dance, ballroom and dance-theatre made for a very strong and lasting connection. Their most notable achievement is placing third in the 2012 in the Distrito Federal (Mexico City) finals for the Euroson Latino, one of Latin America’s most important competitions. In addition, they participated in the 2014 Salsa Mambo Fest, one of Mexico’s most prominent congresses.

Salsafanatics

Salsafanatics have been a presence in the Ottawa salsa scene for over 15 years now! Our salsa classes are based out of the Patro D'Ottawa community centre in downtown Ottawa. We teach beginner to advanced levels of salsa (On 1 and On 2), street cha cha, ladies styling and choreography classes. Our dancers have performed at Congresses across Canada, and as far away as the Sydney Salsa Congress in Australia! You may have seen us over the years at local events such as Canada Day celebrations, the Carnival of Cultures, the Dragon Boat Festival, Winterlude, Salsaria and Rahim's Salsa Fridays. We focus on techniques for leading and following, ladies styling, body movement and musicality. Above all, we strive to have fun in our classes and share our love of this dance with our students. Latin Shop Studio

La Troupe de Bachata Daniel & Désirée de Montréal est née en Septembre 2014 et connait donc aujourd'hui sa 3e saison avec plus de 20 danseurs de tout milieux. Chorégraphié par Daniel & Désirée champions plusieurs fois en Bachata et natif d'Espagne, et coaché par Maude Chénier et Steve Alvarez de LatinShop Studio. Chorégraphies de fusion , concept originaux et de haut calibre, la troupe de Montréal a remporter la 3e place en tant que Bachata Team Canada en 2015 a Toronto!!

Las Bravas

Las Bravas was created by Paulina Posadas 6th times Salsa World Champion. The Ottawa/Gatineau team is comprised of ladies from different schools in the National Capital Region and is directed by Julie-Anne Codaire. Julie-Anne is director of SalsaOlé Dance School and has acquired two amateur Bachata champion titles and two amateur vice-champion titles.

Manuel and Flavie (Kizomba Canada)

Manuel Dos Santos has established his school in Montréal in 2010. Kizomba Canada is the first school to offer Kizomba class, Angola-style, in Canada, North America. Manuel has been dancing for over 15 years that makes him now an outstanding and well-known performer in the international scene. His knowledge of music and dances as salsa, Hip-Hop, Kizomba and Capoeira makes him a wonderful creator, instructor and choreographer. At Kizomba Canada, we translate music into body motion.

Hiram and Briia (Toronto)

Hiram and Briia have been dancing together for about a year in a half ! In 2012 they joined Cadence Dance Academy and they been traveling and performing with them all across North America ever since. they have been traveling together in North America for showcases and teaching workshops .

Briia comilang started dancing at the age of 4 since then she had traveled for showcases around the world. Train in ballroom , ballet, hip hop , contemporary ! She strives to become an all around dancer . Now Briia is a professional salsa dancer and a Canadian representative amateur ballroom dancer who's traveled to China , Spain , Italy for many competitions! Now she continues to strive to the top by teaching , choreographing and sharing her passion with others !

Hiram's love of dance has been evident in Mexico since he was a young child. . He began training Modern Jazz and Contemporary before he decided to migrate to Canada where he trained in Jazz , Ballet, Acrobatics and Hip Hop. He later partnered and competed with, 4x Salsa World Champion, Paulina Posadas. The dynamic duo went on to win 1st Place in different national competitions

Montreal's Encanto

Mtl's Encanto is a new amateur Lady Styling Team directed by world salsa & hustle champion Katia Morales. Energetic, sexy and fun, this young team is ready to surprise it's audience!

Capital Kizomba

Capital Kizomba is the founding school in Ottawa to offer weekly kizomba dance classes in addition to monthly socials and special events. Lynnette, owner of Capital Kizomba, has been teaching kizomba classes and organizing special events in Ottawa since 2012. Her vision is to inspire, motivate and bring people of all backgrounds together as they develop a solid foundation in kizomba, connect musically and enrich their lives through the love Angolan dance. Lynnette has participated in congresses nationally and internationally and trained with top international instructors such as Petchu & Vanessa, Afrolatin Connection, Albir & Sara and many more. In January 2016 Lynnette organized Ottawa’s first 2-day kizomba bootcamp where she taught alongside internationally renowned instructor Ennuel Ivverson from Paris. By applying her 11 years of classroom teaching experience (graduating from the University of Ottawa) to her passion for kizomba, Lynnette has developed a variety of kizomba class levels as well as her first performance team. Choreographed by Lynnette & Mike, Capital Kizomba’s troupe is proud to be represented by Marielle and Sebastian at Ottawa’s first Salsa Convention.

Salsa Fever

Under the direction of Oscar de Leon, Salsa Fever Dance Studio has been one of the most prestigious and recognized Salsa Schools in Ottawa and has performed in numerous Salsa events and Conventions for more than a decade.

Every year, the best dancers are selected to become part of our new salsa team and choreography, and since our first team was created, dancing Energetic and Classy Salsa, has been always Salsa Fever's signature.

Dedicated and passionate duo from Toronto, Canada, Daria Novoselova and Roberto Quaresma, started dancing together just under 2 years ago. In this short time they have gone on to become amateur world champions for two years in a row (2014 & 2015) in the Salsa On1 division at the World Latin Dance Cup held in Miami. Known for their flare, playfulness and charisma on stage, they have travelled and performed in numerous congresses around the world such as Los Angeles Salsa Fest and Dubai Latin Festival. Roberto and Daria are part of the Latin Energy Dance Company led by Vanesa Stay.
