What does a 3-day SALSA Convention entail? It means bringing together 50 of the most nationally & internationally renowned latin dance stars from all of over Canada, USA & Mexico to perform right here in the Nation’s Capital. With over 30 latin dance workshops taught by award-winning performers, there will be something for all levels of dancers! Each day of the convention is then followed by social dancing to the sounds of some of the world's best Salsa DJs across Canada and the United States. This 3-day convention is like no other, showcasing the best of latin dance, right in the heart of the Nation’s Capital at Aberdeen Pavilion in Landsdowne Park. Mario Acosta-Cevallos (Edmonton)

Mario Acosta-Cevallos is a four time World Salsa Champion, a Canadian Latin-American Ballroom Finalist, and Director of the Edmonton area based SalsaVitus Dance Company. He is known for his hypnotic performances marked by high levels of grace, speed, and technical difficulty. Mario's current projects include travelling to teach and perform, developing his dance teams and pro-ams, and creating new and exciting routines for the upcoming next year.

Ana Lopez (Winnipeg)

For many years, Ana Karen has excelled in dance in Manitoba, nationally and internationally. She is a three-time Manitoba Dance Festival Ballet scholarship recipient, and was the featured ballet soloist at a M.D.F. Gala showcase. She most recently placed in the "top twelve" out of 145 dancers at the international ballet competition, the Youth American Grand Prix (Y.A.G.P.), at the semi-finals in Chicago, U.S.A. for both her Contemporary solo and her Pointe solo. Ana also won the highest overall score for all senior solos at the Canadian National Dance Championships (C.N.D.C.), for another Pointe solo, which was to be the first time the highest overall score was awarded to a ballet number in Winnipeg. Most of Ana Karen's dance training has been done at Marquis Dance Academy after having trained for two years in the R.W.B.'s professional division. During her training at Marquis, Ana Karen has won multiple Elite Gold and Gold with Honours awards for her solos, trios and group numbers for Ballet, Pointe, Modern Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz and Lyrical. She has also captured both gold and silver medals at several Dance World Cups in Montreal, Vancouver and Niagara Falls. She also has been the recipient of many dance scholarships from CNDC, Fresh, Jump, Triple Threat and 5678 competitions and conventions.

She has continued her professional development as a teacher of ballet by studying at the world-famous American Ballet Theatre (A.B.T.) in New York, N.Y., Ana Karen most recently won the Pro-Am World Salsa Championships in Miami, Florida and placed 2nd for Bachata Cabaret at the World Latin Dance Cup in Miami, Florida.

Harold Rancano and Regan Hirose (Winnipeg)

Harold Rancano and Regan Hirose, are a Latin dance couple best known for their energetic, and acrobatic flair on stage. Based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, the flavorful couple has achieved plenty of success on a national and international level. Most notably they are the current World Champions for Bachata Cabaret having won gold at the World Latin Dance Cup in Miami, Florida; and are also the current Canadian Bachata Champions having won gold at the Canada Salsa Congress in Toronto, Ontario. The couple has also competed and won various competitions in Salsa and Bachata in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Calgary, and Saskatoon.

Aside from competition, the duo also directs Cubanisimo Dance Company in their hometown, where they train and coach their teams and students, 3 of which won gold at the 2015 World Latin Dance cup. They also coach and mentor various teams outside of the city by both teaching and creating choreography.

Also known for their connection and unique choreography, the couple has travelled to several festivals and congresses to share their vast knowledge of styles and various latin rhythms such as; Salsa on 1, Salsa on 2, Bachata, Pachanga, Cuban Salsa, Cha cha cha and Lifts & Tricks. Whether it’s privates, group classes or to coach teams, the couple has the experience to adapt to any teaching environment.

Lenin A Guerrero Maldonado & Roselyne Gonzalez (Cleveland , Ohio)

Lenin is proficient in rhythms such as: Salsa, Cuban Rumba, Pachanga, Bachata, Chacha, Boogaloo and Mambo. He is the director of Salcity of Angels Dance Company, one of the best and strongest dance companies in Mexico. His unique style is loved and enjoyed by audiences everywhere. It is full of energy flavor and charisma. It is not only elegant and technical but also dynamic and passionate. Lenin has been trained by several instructors including: Abel Peña (L.A.), Machito Ruiz (L.A.), Jose Aguilar (N.Y.), Jorge Martinez (Oaxaca, Mexico), Jose Chavarria (L.A.), Ernesto and Maritza (Chiapas, Mexico).

Awards: Second place in the Euroson Latino Competition 2010 Professional Couples Category. (Mexico), National Champion 2010 – National Competition Salsa Con Clave Professional Couples Category. (Mexico), Second Place 2010 National Competition Salsa Con Clave Groups Category. (Mexico), International Champion 2011 in Costa Rica Salsa Fest Professional Couples Category. (Costa Rica), Third place in the National Salsa-Bachata Competition 2011(Mexico)

Experiences: Lenin has had many opportunities to travel to different countries through dancing. He is recognized internationally. He has performed at the most recognized congresses in all of Mexico and the USA. In March and April of 2014, he went on a dancing tour of 27 cities in France and 5 cities in Germany. Most recently he traveled to Panama in 2014 and the United States in 2013 and 2014 in various cities. He now resides in the United States (Cleveland, Ohio) and travels to the principal salsa congresses in the country as well as those in Mexico.

Roberto Quaresma & Daria Novoselova (Toronto)

Dedicated and passionate duo from Toronto, Canada, Daria Novoselova and Roberto Quaresma, started dancing together about 3 years ago. Only 3 months into their partnership, they entered their first competition at the World Latin Dance Cup in Miami in December/14 and became amateur Salsa On1 world champions. Shortly after, Daria suffered a devastating neck injury during a dance practice and had to undergo surgery not knowing if she would ever be able to dance again. After months of recovery and wearing a neck brace, she gradually returned to the dancefloor just in time to go back to Miami to defend the couple's championship title. Despite a very challenging year for both dancers, in December/15 Roberto and Daria became 2x amateur world salsa champions. The comeback story inspired many and was covered by numerous newspapers, such as the Toronto Star, as well as the CBC News. Since then the couple have traveled and performed in many congresses around the world such as Los Angeles Salsa Fest, Dubai Latin Festival and Japan Salsa Congress. They have recently returned from the World Salsa Summit competition held in Miami in January/17 with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals in various salsa and bachata divisions. Known for their flare, playfulness and charisma on stage, Roberto and Daria are part of the Latin Energy Dance Company led by Vanesa Stay.

Angelo De Torres & Kathy Dondish (Toronto)

Angelo and Kathy began dancing together since 2009. Their passion for Latin dancing has led them to start competing and performing together. They are the 2011 Chim Pum Callao Congress and the Canada Salsa Congress Bachata Champions and were finalist at the Toronto Bachata Festival. They enjoy travelling and sharing their passion for dance and have performed at international events such as the All Star Salsa European Cruise and the Israel Salsa Congress. Together they have developed a unique style of bachata, have taught hundreds of classes and workshops, and have choreographed numerous routines for both professionals and amateurs alike.

Angelo De Torres is a professional dancer and choreographer and has had a love and appreciation for music since a very young age. The diverse forms of expression inherent in Salsa, Bachata, Pachanga and Latin Hustle are what captivated him to learn and share his passion. He has extensive training with respected international instructors such as Billy Fajardo, Katie Marlow, Nelson Flores, Tito Ortoz, Tamara Livolsi, Francesco Scalvenzi and Milko Succi. Angelo has been teaching and dancing since 2008 for Steps dance studio under the direction of Jennifer Aucoin and is now a co-owner/director of Steps Dance Studio Inc.

Kathy Dondish has had the passion for dance at an early age, when she took her first ballet class at the age of 6 and trained in gymnastics at age 11. Her love for Latin dancing only grew stronger as of 2007 and hasn't stopped since. Today, she is a performer, teacher and competitor. Having trained with top Toronto dancers as well as internationally has increased her drive to share her love on stage and in the studio.

Hiram and Briia (Toronto)

Hiram and Briia have been dancing together for about a year in a half ! In 2012 they joined Cadence Dance Academy and they been traveling and performing with them all across North America ever since. they have been traveling together in North America for showcases and teaching workshops .

Briia comilang started dancing at the age of 4 since then she had traveled for showcases around the world. Train in ballroom , ballet, hip hop , contemporary ! She strives to become an all around dancer . Now Briia is a professional salsa dancer and a Canadian representative amateur ballroom dancer who's traveled to China , Spain , Italy for many competitions! Now she continues to strive to the top by teaching , choreographing and sharing her passion with others !

Hiram's love of dance has been evident in Mexico since he was a young child. . He began training Modern Jazz and Contemporary before he decided to migrate to Canada where he trained in Jazz , Ballet, Acrobatics and Hip Hop. He later partnered and competed with, 4x Salsa World Champion, Paulina Posadas. The dynamic duo went on to win 1st Place in different national competitions

Adriano Ieropoli and Samantha Scali (Montreal)

Adriano Ieropoli and Samantha Scali are professional dancers based out of Montreal, Canada. In 2009, at age fourteen they began their partnership by teaching locally and performing for various stage productions, concerts, festivals and salsa congresses.

In 2015, they started competing internationally and founded Novaera Productions their very own dance studio in Montreal. That year, Adriano won his first world title in the same gender division and he is now the current world champion in the men solo division. Adriano and Samantha are the first Canadian couple to have won a world title in the Professional Salsa On2 division, having placed first at the 2017 World Salsa Summit.

Rania Greiche Event-Planner & Rickey Zepeda (Montreal)

Biographie Rania Greiche: D’origine égyptienne, mordue de la danse depuis son enfance dans plusieurs styles; ballet, Hip-Hop et Baladi, la danse latine fut celle qui l’inspire le plus, et ce depuis bientôt 10 ans. Professeure, chorégraphe et danseuse professionnelle depuis 5 ans, elle a fait plusieurs compétitions et spectacles au niveau national et international d’autant plus que d’avoir participé à divers congrès & festivals dont le festival de jazz de Montréal & Festival juste pour rire, le congres de Los Angeles en 2012 et encore plus! Elle continue à transmettre sa passion avec son partenaire Rickey Zepeda depuis maintenant presque 2 ans. Organisatrice, Directrice & fondatrice d’une grande compétition a Montréal, Salsa Fever Dance Competition depuis 2012 & passionné de ce qu’elle fait, voici Rania Greiche

Biographie Rickey Zepeda: Il danse depuis maintenant 9 ans et est également professeur et Chorégraphe depuis 5 ans. D'origine Guatémaltèque, il a dansé sur scène National & International entres autres au Chili, Los Angeles 2009 & à Chicago. Il a participé à plusieurs congrès et Festivals de danse afin de partager sa passion de la danse Latine et continue jusqu'aujourd’hui de le faire avec sa partenaire, Rania Greiche en n'ayant qu'un objectif, vous transmettre le plaisir et la joie de danser. Tout récemment, février 2015, il obtient la première place dans la catégorie duo Men’s styling avec son partenaire Adriano, nous revenant avec le titre de champion mondiale de la grande compétition World Salsa Summit à Miami. Ensemble Rickey et Rania ont également fondé plusieurs troupes de danse et soulignerons leur tout premier Gala de Danse annuel en juin 2017.

Rodolfo Molina (Montreal)

Originally from Puebla, Mexico, Rodolfo discovered the passion of dance 13 years ago in his hometown. He immediately fell in love with the style of latin dance and started his training. Moving to Montreal, he dedicated his life to training and growing his abilities as a dancer and performer. He has worked with numerous dancers and has trained in various styles such as Ballroom, Afro, mambo, ballet and Jazz. Rodolfo continues to grow everyday as a dancer, teacher and performer. He wishes to continue sharing his love of dance with the rest of the world.

Jason Ng & Regan Baird (Toronto)

Jason Ng started training in Ballroom and Latin dance at a very young age and he has won numerous competitions in junior categories. As a virtual dance chameleon, Jason has learned, performed and competed in many partner dances such as Salsa, Bachata, West Coast Swing and most recently Kizomba. He was introduced to Kizomba in 2013 and instantly fell in love. With over 10 years of experience teaching various genres of dance, and glowing references from mentors in the local and International Kizomba scene, it came as no surprise when he was handpicked as Senior Kizomba Instructor at the largest salsa school in Canada, Toronto Dance Salsa.

Regan Baird, UT Kizomba, is a triple threat in the Kizomba scene in Toronto: promoter, instructor and dancer. She discovered Kizomba in 2011 and has been working tirelessly to prefect her craft, while learning from the brightest stars in the business including the Angolan and PALOP communities. Co-founder of Flavour Fridays, the #1 Kizomba and Zouk night in Toronto, Regan takes pride in advancing the Toronto Kizomba scene and strengthening the relationship between the dance community and the Angolan Community through dance classes, workshops and social dance opportunities. Whether it is teaching across Canada or during their regular classes in Toronto, J&R Kizomba enjoy sharing their knowledge about the culture and dance of Kizomba.

After a short break away from dance, the Mom of two, returned in 2015, where she competed at the World Latin Dance Cup, and became a 3 time Amateur World Champion, bringing home gold in Salsa On2 Couple, Salsa Team, and Ladies Lyrical Solo. Wanting to bring more New York Style Mambo to Toronto, she formed the newest, most in demand ladies performance teams in Toronto, Mambo Fever Dance.

It’s at the age of 18 years old that he discovered the passion and the love for dancing. When he was a child, he never liked sports but threw dancing he was able to combine useful and pleasant. His style reflects joy, passion and his love for dancing. People say that he dances for the heart. Threw many congresses, he was able to transmit his fever for the love of dance. He started teaching at the strazzero academy school and with the help of Marie-Josee Strazzero, he became the dancer that you know or will discover. With time, he was able to create his own philosophy; don’t ever compare yourself to others but to you.

Miguel Brillant and Hayley Lively (Kitchener-Waterloo)

"Hayley and Miguel became dance partners in Ottawa in 2011, and they trained with various world-class instructors to develop their skills. They are the pioneers of Brazilian Zouk in Seoul, Korea. In 2016, they founded “Tout en Connexion”, to teach the connexion-intensive dances they specialize in: Brazilian Zouk, Urban Kiz and Zoukchata. H&M’s dance repertoire also includes, Salsa, Chacha and West Coast Swing. Hayley and Miguel are based in Kitchener-Waterloo where they created a new Kizomba/Urban-Kiz scene. They also teach at the prestigious Love to Dance Studio in Scarborough. They recently taught Urban-Kiz and Zoukchata at the Canada Kizomba Congress – Toronto Salsa Festival."

Golden Flame Dance Company (Ottawa)

Aletta and Abby are two different young and dedicated individuals from two different cultures but were raised with the great talent of dance. Aletta was born and raised in Russia and from age of 6 started studying dance from the best Latin, Ballroom, Flamenco, Bellydance, and Ballet school, and after many years of practice, she started teaching dance back home. At the same time in Nigeria, Abby started his dance career from the street as Hip- Hop and Latin dancer and then moved to Canada where he studied other different dance styles like Ballet, Contemporary, Tap, Jazz, Ballroom, Salsa, Bachata, and Zouk from famous schools and teachers across Ontario. Abby and Aletta met in Ottawa on the dance floor of Rahim's salsa Friday night and since then became a furious duo mixed with so many different dance styles. And today they dance, compete and perform, teach Salsa and Bachata partner work and footwork technique, choreograph together, give workshops across Canada.

The young but already well-known dance company Golden Flame Dance is the creation of Abby’s hard work and creativity and Aletta has become a part of it as well. The couple is happy to be performing for Ottawa on Ottawa’s Salsa Convention bringing all the talent and accumulated experience in one incendiary and fiery Salsa show!

Lynnette Adeline & Mike Trahan (Capital Kizomba, Ottawa)

Capital Kizomba is the founding school in Ottawa to offer weekly kizomba dance classes in addition to monthly socials and special events. Lynnette, owner of Capital Kizomba, has been teaching kizomba classes and organizing special events in Ottawa since 2012. Her vision is to inspire, motivate and bring people of all backgrounds together as they develop a solid foundation in kizomba, connect musically and enrich their lives through the love Angolan dance. Lynnette, alongside her partner Mike, have participated in congresses nationally and internationally and trained with top international instructors such as Petchu & Vanessa, Afrolatin Connection, Ennuel and many more. Committed to constantly learning & growing as both dancers & instructors, Lynnette & Mike completed 2 weeks of instructor training in July 2016 with Master Petchu & Vanessa themselves in Lisbon, Portugal followed by 2 more weeks of training with private classes & workshops in Paris.

In January 2016 Lynnette organized Ottawa’s first 2-day kizomba bootcamp where she taught alongside internationally renowned instructor Ennuel Ivverson from Paris. In 2017 she brought the world-traveled Laurent & Adeline from Paris for the first time to Canada for Ottawa’s biggest kizomba musicality bootcamp to date. By applying her 12 years of classroom teaching experience (graduating from the University of Ottawa) to her passion for kizomba, Lynnette, alongside her partner Mike, give weekly kizomba classes in Ottawa every Monday and organize monthly events. Capital Kizomba is proud to be teaching & performing at this year’s Ottawa Salsa Convention.

Komlanvi Dodjro & Claudine Martel (GoSalsa) - Gatineau

The first Latin Dance Company established in Gatineau in 2002. GoSalsa is renowned internationally for producing the Annual Gatineau International Salsa Congress - Salsafair, 3 years running hosting thousands of artists and dancers alike. They are popular for their artistic style and creative “out of the box” choreographies and shows. Directed by Komlanvi Dodjro and Claudine Martel, GoSalsa has astonished audiences with their theatrical interpretation and stage presence at international dance events. Their vision is to change people’s lives through the passion and joy of dancing. GoSalsa approaches teaching with humor, enthusiasm, abundant energy and great passion. The directors are proud to present their latest routine.

Julie-Anne Codaire (Gatineau , Quebec)

After acquiring two world champion titles in Bachata, two vice-champion titles in Salsa and several national champion titles as an amateur dancer, Julie-Anne turned professional in March 2014. She is now considered one of the most influential female dancer and instructor in the National Capital Region and is travelling around Canada and the United States to teach, compete and perform. Julie-Anne has a distinguished and elegant dance style. Her love and passion for dancing is reflected in everything she does. Her goal is to provide her students all the necessary tools and technics to empower them and allow them to become the best dancers they can be. For Julie-Anne, dancing is a therapy which allows to learn more about yourself and to open yourself to others.

Salsa Fever (Ottawa)

Salsa Fever has been performing nationally and internationally, including major events like the Montreal Salsa Congress, Toronto Salsa Congress. Puerto Rico Salsa Congress and many Ottawa & surroundings Salsa events, since the year 2000. Under the direction of Oscar de Leon, most of the team performers have been students at Salsa Fever Dance Studio, now located at 349 Dalhousie. Additional information about Salsa Fever's group lessons and choreographies, can be found at: www.salsafever.ca. Performers who have been part of this glamorous team, are now popular faces in the Ottawa Salsa scene, and are now, the motivation for many new Salsa dancers. Through the years, dancers and choreographies have been changing, but the harmony, synchronization and energy that the team projects on stage, makes Salsa Fever one of the audience's favorites.

University of Ottawa Salsa (UOSALSA)

UOSalsa, the official salsa club at the University of Ottawa, is a student run club that, as a social organization, strives to provide students and community members with a fun and welcoming environment to learn the fundamentals and more of salsa and other Latin dances, and as a competitive dance team, trains intensively in order to develop a higher level of technique and skill among all its members. The founder and current coach of UOSalsa is Jose Sandoval of Salsa-Force (www.salsa-force.com). Jose has had over 10 years of experience where he has been able to perfect techniques, tips, and tricks that he is willing to share with all his students in order to take them to the next level. Jose has instructed and performed at international events throughout North America and Asia including in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Miami, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Vietnam, and he has led the UOSalsa performance team in their participation in many events including several performances within the Ottawa/Gatineau region and at the Canada Salsa and Bachata congress in Toronto. UOSalsa believes that “Salsa is not just a dance, it’s a lifestyle.

Jose Sandoval (Ottawa)

Salsa-Force is a Salsa school based in Ottawa funded by Jose Sandoval in 2010.Jose Sandoval was born and raised in Caracas Venezuela where he was exposed to the Latin Salsa culture on a daily basis. At the age of 17 he started his formal training in Salsa; he then moved to Ottawa, Canada where he developed an in-depth repertoire of skills, tricks and abilities required to impress and succeed on any dance floor. He has traveled to many cities within North-America and Asia where he has participated and performed in numerous salsa events including Toronto, Montreal, Miami, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Vietnam. In 2014, he had the privilege of participating in Hong Kong salsa festival and Taipei salsa festival as a performer and instructor, he also traveled to Vietnam where he offered several workshops under beso latino dance school. He is also the founder and current coach of UOSalsa, University of Ottawa Salsa Team.
